Introduction
“ACTIZEN democracy means people getting involved in their local communities, and governance at
all levels, from towns to cities, to nationwide activity. ACTIZEN democracy can be as small as a
campaign to clean up the streets or as big as educating young people about democratic values, skills,
and participation. ACTIZEN democracy is one of the most important steps towards healthy societies,
and towards the largest democracy like India.”

Steps for the activity
DAAC President as a facilitator
1. Discuss for 5 minutes about the activity, and brainstorm on the following questions with
other DAAC members -
a. What does Democracy mean to you?
b. Does it mean only voting whenever the elections are declared or something more
than that?
c. Do children have the right to vote in a Democracy?
d. Are children eligible to vote now?
e. If not, how can we participate in Democracy?
f. If Yes, How?
2. Let us all think about different ways to participate in a democracy and be responsible
citizens of the world’s largest democracy.
3. Ask questions to debrief -
a. What do you understand by the definition given?
b. If democracy is more than the right to vote or responsible voting, what does it exactly
looks like to us?
4. Divide the class into 4-5 groups and distribute the print outs and other material to design
their democracy sketch.
5. Brief that there are no upper or lower limits to use the cutouts for designing ACTIZEN
democracy. The students could design the ACTIZEN democracy in their own way with the
help of the given cut-outs. (No restrictions. The group can draw, cut, paste and design their
ideal democracy). Groups also can select some of the cutouts, or all of them to design the
ACTIZEN Democracy, but they also need to describe why they have selected the cut ous?
6. The students have 30 minutes to complete the task and for each group to display their
definitions
7. Each group will come and present their definitions of ACTIZEN democracy for 5 minutes after
the completion of the activity

Closing and Pre-preparation for Week 2
1. Vice President Discuss the next Week plan with DAAC members and finalise date and
agenda. Take prior permissions for the activity and circulate the agenda.
2. Secretary - Collect the reflection sheets and presentations, click photographs of the activity
and share with your DA teacher and request him/her to share the same with Desh Apnayen.
3. Treasurer Take Print outs and cut outs ready for the next activity as per number of group
members.
